Adobe Capture CC

WHy

Conceptualised the centralised app for Shapes, Colors, Brushes and Hues (already existed in the app store). Collaborated with another designer to ship it - I worked on the newer components (Looks and Pattern).

Initial Pitch

To explore an interface where users can capture different types of assets in one app. It's easier to market and reuse original source to create multiple types of assets.

This began with a few iterations in After Effects as motion comps. We then pitched it to the executives for resourcing and the entire process from pitching to shipping took 6 months.

Since we were given a tight timeline, most changes happened across multiple version updates.

Hue to Look

The initial bubble designers were implemented as a direct visualisation of the midtone-shift algorithm. The position of the bubbles maps directly the HSL colour bicone.

However, most users (even video-pros) struggled to understand what the bubbles represents and how can use them to adjust the colour of their photos or videos.

This was an interesting problem because, different from all the other assets that a user can capture inside Capture CC, Looks are an abstraction of the camera view. So we explored different ways to represent how to capture a Look.

Design Explorations

Repeat - Pattern Capture

The new asset component that allows user to create seamless patterns.
We explored different ways generate the pattern including seam blending
and Wang Tiles (mostly for game textures)

Initial Explorations

We had to evaluate what the technology enable us to do. We have the standard
blurring of the edge to make the repeated tiles seamless. But we also have
the ability to create "more-seamless" pattern using Wang Tiling.

Final version

We decided to move forward without the wang tiling due to time
constrains. As we are working towards V2 we are hoping to enable
vectorisation of patterns. We noticed a lot of users are already
doing this manually (by saving the tile and use it as a source for
our "shape" asset creation workflow in the Capture CC app)
